Blogger meet-up Tokyo style?

I have no idea what I mean by 'Tokyo style', except that it would be great to meet up in Tokyo with those of you who I have communicated with, on this blog, yours, or another's.  The genesis of the idea is in the comments to 'kamo's blog post.  What comes up often, apart from the tribulations of standing out like an indulged nail, is good beer.  If you are interested, please comment here, and we'll work out a way to communicate, keeping a level of privacy.

I can recommend Popeye's (Ryogoku), both Devil Craft locations (Kanda and Hamamatsu-cho), and the Harajuku Taproom.  I'd like to get to the new Yona Yona Beer Kitchen (Akasaka-Mitsuke), Goodbeer Faucets (Shibuya), or even Dry Dock (Shinbashi), and am open to other suggestions.

Craft Beer Market in Toranomon are dicks.  I won't go there.

A Friday night is convenient for most, but also for the other forty million in Kanto.  Perhaps a weekend lunch or dinner is better.  Please let me know your thoughts on date, location and time, if able to join.  Thanks.

  1. I'm always good for a Saturday evening. Friday's are hit and miss. Any Saturday other than 3/1 works for me. If It has to be a Friday, 2/28, 3/14 or 3/28 are ok...

Taprooms are Ok, but limited to Baird's. Popeye's or Goodbeer Faucets have decent selections...

    1. Thanks for the quick response, which encourages me to believe this can happen.

2/28 and 3/01 may be soon to get comments and coordination to happen, though it may still be possible: if so, maybe 3/01 over 2/28 to avoid the dead-eyed office-droids. 3/14 is my anniversary weekend, so I'd better not. 3/28, I may be out of town, but don't know yet. Could happen 3/01, late March, or even into April.

As for the place, Popeye's or Goodbeer Faucets are both also fine with me. I'd be torn between the certainty Popeye's is great, and curiosity to try Goodbeer Faucets.

  2. Unfortunately a weekend away to Tokyo is probably asking a bit much of both the real and marital current accounts right now. I will, however, be joining you in spirit and wish you all good health and fun times, or whatever that cheesy tag-line was from Lost in Translation.

    1. A real shame for me: although we have as many differences in temperament and reading as similarities, almost nobody else has the similarities. You'll be missed.

  3. Good heavens, last time I took part in one of those was over 5 years ago and I ended up chaperoning one very drunk Mr. F. Salaryman back to his apartment. Billy will remember, I'm sure. Anyway not that I'm blogging much these days, but would like to invite myself along if possible.

Fridays and Saturdays work fine for me, I don't have anything particular scheduled at the moment until May. If it's a Friday, Yona Yona Beer Kitchen would be excellent as it's a short-ish walk from the office.

    1. So this has happened before? I wasn't blogging that long ago, I think, nor was I back in Japan yet. Sounds like Salaryman lived up to his name, despite significant Nordic DNA (Or was he born there of two Japanese parents? I've forgotten.).

A bit concerned about choosing a Friday night. It's convenient for certain, but busy enough to need a reservation also. Another for Yona Yona, so now we have to narrow it down with, Popeye's and Goodbeer Faucets.

    2. Yes, I remember it well...

If we do it on 3/1 (Sat), I'll be coming from work with an estimated arrival time of 6pm. That's fine with me if it's ok with everyone else. As for deciding the venue, if it ends up with no clear favorite, I'm ok with the event planner (writer of this blog) choosing two venues at random, flipping a coin, and doing it again with the remaining two...

  4. This is such a cool idea! If I were in the 'hood I would make it a point to go. Unfortunately there is this huge body of water in my way. Because of where I live (and the lack of bloggers that are not 12) I have only met one other blogger and that was a 3 hour drive.

    1. Wish you could make it too, but we don't have teleporters yet (and I will be the last to try one). I've never met anyone in person I'd met on the Internet. I never even did online dating, though tempted in some 'dry spells'. I assumed I couldn't find chemistry unless in person.

  5. Congratulations on being one of the few Westerners in Japan who can suggest a meetup somewhere other than Roppongi :)
