I am looking for some people to ride with on the Arakawa, Edogawa and Tonegawa cycling roads, and sometimes further afield. In the 'spirit of full disclosure', there are two groups I have thought of joining which you should consider: the Tokyo Cycling Club, whose members ride too fast for me; and Half Fast Cycling, who meet too far from where I live. I know from the stats on my blog that I have some readers in Japan. I hope some of you ride.
If your pace is about 25km, you like to ride 50km, or even more, and especially if you drink, for god's sake drop a comment here! My location is near Kameari station.

50km is a typical ride, which I haven't been doing enough of lately. I used to live in Bunkyo, which could mean about 30 minutes to the Arakawa. Now is Shinjuku. I ride a Chevy bike. Don't ask, it was either that or a Hummer for my sub 30,000 budget. I am in good shape. I drink. I thought about joining the Half Fast guys, but his first mail sounded like they are a little too into safety. What I'm saying is that I prefer to ride like I am in a video game, which might be dangerous. Let me know if you want to cycle sometime.
ReplyDeleteIf you are riding 50km, you deserve a better bike! A thousand bucks seems like a lot, but for that you can get a bike that really is good enough. You can spend more, and I like to spend more, but every dollar over a thousand is less necessary than every dollar under. The kind of bike that is good at that price? Kona Honky Tonk, Jamis Aurora, one of the cheaper Masi.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment, and your blog makes me want to get a (motor)bike, though I think the J-wife would have another opinion... Too bad we are opposite sides of the city, making a ride together a hard thing to work.
G'day fellow Torontoian. Not sure if you were able to get a together with a riding group or not, but there are a bunch that go out from Teganuma which close to Kita-Kashiwa/Abiko station. I cycle with three clubs there and they are fantastic to ride with. They have cyclists of all levels and go at different paces. We usually met at 830 on Saturdays and 800 am on Sundays. Let me know if you're interested.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the note, especially after calling me out for the 'dentist bike' comment I made here: http://hanlonsrzr.blogspot.com/2011/01/validation-that.html
ReplyDeleteWhat clubs are running up there? Do they have websites? I've been turned off clubs since my one experience with 'the Tokyo Cycling Club', so I'd like to know what I'm getting into.
Thanks.
Was it something I wrote or just a general courtesy due to my email being posted?
ReplyDeleteSorry, I still have the post, but meant to take out the email and put it back up. Good guess.
ReplyDeleteUhh... sorry, I lost the post...
