Chinese pollution reaches Tokyo, again.

'Dust' from China tonight (and pollution). Stay inside and run your filters, Japan, and Korea. I guessed at it because the sky doesn't look right in Tokyo, and the link confirms it.  This is what happens when a billion people want to share our wealth, as one would, and we've done little about the cost of that wealth.

  1. This being Japan, I wouldn't believe that this stuff actually comes from China. It's convenient anti-Chinese propaganda and who knows the totalitarian nature of Japanese media, knows that the science could be manufactured. Am I being to paranoid about Japan's determination to blame China for everything? I don't think so, as last year's micro-dust pollution was eventually caused by factories in Japan (Chiba), and China's pollution added a negligible part in Japan's pollution.

  2. I agree!
Last year, testing of PM2.5 particles carried out on Mt. Fuji showed that they were from a volcano in Kyushu.
Reported in Japan Times, but not elsewhere.

  3. I do remember reading about Mt. Sakurajima in Kagoshima, Kyushu, being responsible for PM2.5, but the Japanese people I mentioned it to were incredulous. And that's the clever, well-read ones.

Some Japanese people over the age of fifty can remember a time, in certain industrial cities here, when the smog was so bad that schools were closed. I ask them where all those factories have gone to, they think about it and say "um, to China I guess." Again, the educated ones.
